Dawn broke gently, grey and moist. A few stars still twinkled faintly in the milky distance. Amukasibe was not fully awake. The trill of the crickets came in short bursts, each leaving a mock ringing in his ears until the next one. He was hearing the crickets and felling the dull pricks of bad bugs biting into his neck of the kapock pillow.

A drum banged loudly outside the door of his hut. Amukasibe jumped awake as his feet were slipping of the edge of a cliff in the dream.......
